Control Measures and IPM
Reducing populations of mosquitoes is a prime example of using Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Using only one technique while ignoring other aspects will probably result in poor control at best. A lot of this might seem like common sense, but...
Cultural: For example, adjust landscape watering start times and durations to limit puddling.
Physical: Reduce breeding areas by eliminating standing water. Mosquitoes need only a few days and a few ounces of water to breed. Watch out for flower pot trays, bird bathes, kids pools and old tires. Mosquito traps that attract using Carbon Dioxide seem to work well, just set it up away (in your neighbor's yard?) since you'll really attract a lot of these insects.
Biological: Promote natural predators like dragon flies. For any ponds or water features, we us a natural bacterial product containing Bt to harmlessly control larvae before they become adults.
Spray: As the final step, we have had excellent results in our spray treatments to control populations levels of mosquitoes. While this typically works best if performed regularly or before special events like an outdoor party, many of our customers report season long results from just one treatment. We use a natural product safe for your family and pets, of course.
